Porsche´s electro hydraulic spoilersystem mounted on 996 / 997 Turbos creates groundforce under highspeed driving conditions or sharp cornering on track. Speed higher than 120 km/h raises the spoiler by triggering both hydraulic cylinders, which also lower the spoiler at speeds under 60 km/h. Unfortunately some of these hydraulic cylinders start to leak over time and they lose hydraulic fluid. This happens mostly due to leaks inside of the hydraulic cylinder. Some aftermarket manufacturers sell fixed solutions or exchange the whole system with a new fixed spoiler. Also the bad design gets copied and offered as a solution which does not work over time - as the original did as well. No wonder, as a copy of a bad design ist often worse than the original. Porsche does not offer a direct fix and sometimes a complete exchange of hydraulic pump, lines and hydraulic cylinders, basically the whole system, becomes necessairy at costs above 2500$US. A simple fix with new copper oil seals at the bottom of the hydraulic cylinder, new rubber o-rings regardless of best quality or soldering the inside is most often not satisfying.
